So Say We All

So Say We All (SSWA) is a San Diego-based literary and performing arts non-profit whose mission is to help people tell their stories and tell them better through three core avenues: by providing education opportunities, forums for performances, and publication opportunities across various mediums.

In addition to serving the general public, So Say We All helms programming that serve populations that have been talked about more than heard from in public discourse, among which veterans and their family members are certainly counted. SSWA provides the following services for free to active-duty military, veterans, and military family members.

  • The Veteran Writers Division provides 1-1 editorial guidance for true, non-fiction stories, regardless how developed the piece is. The end goal is to help the submitter achieve a final draft of their story capable of being published or compete for literary contests, and to perform their work in a live showcase with other veteran writers or through our NPR radio showcase, Incoming.

Stories can be around 15 double-spaced pages or less (less is more!) Book-length manuscripts cannot be considered. Submissions from San Diego will be asked to work in a cohort with other veteran / military family members, submissions from outside the county will primarily work with our coaches over Google Docs or email.

Incoming is the public face of the Veteran Writers Division. It presents completed professional true stories by active duty military, veterans, and military family members through live storytelling showcases, in print through its anthologies, and on its NPR radio show and podcast by the same name. Stories workshopped or submitted to the Veteran Writers Division, or solicited by Incoming’s producers.
