Resounding Joy

Resounding Joy, Inc.’s Semper Sound program provides music therapy to military service members, Veterans and military family members to enrich lives and to progress toward non-musical goals, such as symptom management, pain reduction, career development, or building stronger familial relationships.  Improvement in these areas is attained through:-Interactive music making-Songwriting-Therapeutic instrument instruction-Lyric analysis-Guided relaxation to music-Improvisation.
No prior experience necessary!  No instrument equipment required!

Individual sessions follow a 16 week cycle throughout the year (JAN-APR, MAY-AUG, SEP-DEC).  Sessions are 45 mins long and the first 8 weeks of sessions are free.  After 8 weeks, we request a donation to be made on a sliding scale at a rate that is manageable for participants.  Once completing a 16 week cycle, the participant is ineligible for services until after the next 16 week cycle is completed (i.e., if you were seen JAN-APR, you are ineligible to reserve a time slot from MAY-AUG, but you can reserve a time slot for SEP-DEC).  This allows us to see more people and provide ongoing services to all!

We also have a group called the Semper Sound Band.  The Semper Sound Band consists of active duty service members, Veterans and military family members that are interested in collaborating with others musically to write songs, record and perform in the community.  If you are interested in being a part of the band, you must sign up for individual sessions and set joining the Semper Sound Band as your goal for sessions.  You will be given instruction by the therapist that is designed to expose you to the Semper Sound Band’s approach to making music in order to see if it is a good fit for you.

We also have a weekly drum circle that is a recreational music making group called Drum It Out!  This group is open to the community and all are welcome.  We typically have 5-10 participants each week and we learn how to support each other and work together through the rhythm of our drums.  In addition to the weekly sessions, once a month this group goes out into the community and provides a drum circle for all in the area to join and enjoy.

To get involved, please contact Cory Woodrow, Director of Semper Sound (cwoodrow@resoundingjoyinc.org; 858-754-6179).

Lastly, we have a volunteer program that allows individuals to share their skills with our company so we can see how to get you involved.  Our volunteers help us with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, assisting music therapists with facilitating sessions, administrative/secretarial tasks and advocacy at networking events/fundraisers.  If interested in volunteering, please contact Christina Danley, Network Coordinator (cdanley@resoundingjoyinc.org; 858-457-2200).
